"You must believe the vision because if you don’t, how do you expect others to?

So - live your vision in your mind.

Have you ever seen dow hill skiers rehearsing their slalom course? They put on their skis and grasp their ski poles, and then they live every curve and bump of that course."

DR ZAFFRAN - HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL LEADER - part 2

Vision – Where are we headed?

Leaders throughout history have inspired the masses to achieve great things with their vision of the future, even through times of trouble.

Martin Luther King started with, “I have a dream…”

Companies today will have mission statements that outline their vision, and their future plans but a vision has to be more then just a paragraph in a brochure. The job of a leader is to breathe life into that vision so that all who come in contact with him/her end up sharing the same beliefs.

Why?

It’s important that your team knows where the organisation is heading and that there is a future for them and their team.

They need to have faith in you as a leader – that being part of your team will bring them success.

Ultimately how well you sell that vision will establish your credentials as a leader that inspires others to do great things.

How?

The vision that you create has to be clear.

Your vision must engage the senses of your audience in its delivery, sight, sound, feel, smell etc.

Most importantly, you must believe the vision - because if you don’t, how do you expect others to? Live your vision in your mind. Have you ever seen downhill skiers rehearsing their slalom course, they put on their skis and grasp their ski poles, and then they live every curve and bump of that course.

Once your vision becomes clear and you’ve done the above exercise you too will feel more motivated because you’ve seen the future... and you’ll know how to get there, and inspire others to do the same.
