The aim of Fruity Friday, is to encourage people to eat more fruit and vegetables as part of a healthy lifestyle. It also raises money for WCRF to fund cancer prevention research and education programmes.

TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has given her backing to Cancer Prevention Week, which aims to improve people’s understanding of the link between diet and exercise and cancer.

She said: “There needs to be more awareness about cancer and how it can be prevented by following a healthy lifestyle.

“Diet, nutrition, and exercise are all a basis for maintaining your health and for helping prevent cancer, so get involved with WCRF during Cancer Prevention Week.”

GET JAZZY ON FRUITY FRIDAY!

 JAZZ™ apples are lending their support to World Cancer Research Fund UK’s (WCRF) awareness day ‘Fruity Friday’ on May 25, A day that encourages us all to get our five a day.

The WCRF have been running the Fruity Friday campaign for three years, raising money for WCRF cancer research and education programmes.

This year JAZZ™ apples is supporting the initiative by sponsoringf an interactive scratch poster.  70,000 unique UK shaped posters will be produced for the Fruity Friday campaign and are being distributed to schools, businesses, community and medical centres throughout the country. 

The poster features 40 squares, one of which has a hidden picture of ‘Pip the Strawberry.’  Entrants write their name under a square on the poster and place £1 in a jar.  On May 25, the square surfaces will be scratched off and the person whose name appears underneath Pip wins half the money, while the remainder goes to the charity.

Gary Harrison, Commercial Manager for Worldwide Fruit, said, “Worldwide Fruit are excited to be involved in the WRFC Fruity Friday campaign again this year.  JAZZ™ apples understands the importance of healthy eating and is pleased that the campaign is growing in momentum”.

Watch out for JAZZ™ apple giveaways at Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus underground tube stations on May 4.  To help kick off WCRF’s awareness week on May 21 JAZZ™ apples will also be in Cavendish Square and on Fruity Friday (May 25) they can be found in Canary Wharf.

JAZZ™ apples are also sponsoring ‘Beat the Banana’ fun runs d across the country.  Participants will attempt to beat a runner dressed as a banana (snigger) and will receive JAZZ™ apples in their goodie bags at events in Liverpool, LondonBristol, Manchester and Hull.

 JAZZ™ apples originate from New Zealand, the variety is a cross between Royal Gala and Braeburn, and if you fancy picking one up, you'll find them at Morrison’s Marks & Spencer, Tesco, and Waitrose. <munch>
