Honey Kalaria

Honey Kalaria was born with a club foot and told she may never walk properly, let alone dance.  She didn’t listen. Honey is now a UK Bollywood ambassador and icon, and has opened her own dance academy with 15 centres and over 1,800 students.

Honeys determination and dedication have helped her overcome her difficulties and she is now a deeply spiritual person, who relies greatly on the power of positive thinking and belief

JOURNEY THROUGH MEDITATION - by Honey Kalaria

I am sharing with you a fantastic journey that began in summer 2001, when I had the privilege of meeting Shiv Krupanand Swami, a living saint of the 21st century and a teacher of a unique Dhyan Yoga technique called Samarpan Meditation.

The Samarpan technique is said to have the power to quickly, easily and effectively take you to a deeper meditative state and can provide help and guidance to those who are currently experiencing challenges in life.

My introduction....

When I was on the eight day meditation course, I listened intently to what was being taught. I possess quite an inquisitive mind and tend to ask many questions – things need to make sense to me before I welcome new ideas, but these teachings had a different effect on me. I was experiencing great insights, enjoyed the way Swamiji would use stories to describe certain teachings and I felt different! That feeling was significantly different to other spiritual and meditation courses that I had previously attended.

There was some kind of calmness and peace that dawned upon me and the energy I was feeling was very profound. I decided to try out the 45 days meditation that we were recommended to follow and that was the turning point of my life.  The meditation technique taught to us was very easy to follow, there were no strict rules on what you can and can’t do and the results were amazing.

My outlook changed

Although I have always been a very positive person, my outlook towards life began to change, my concentration levels accelerated and I began to achieve much more. All the areas of my life became more balanced and there was a wonderful sense of harmony in my world and the way I saw it. Miracles were happening, prayers were being answered and most of all my awareness levels grew. I became more tolerant of others, my decision making skills sharpened up and my spiritual growth, which I had always prayed for progressed gracefully.

Some people may ask why is it important to maintain spiritual fitness through means such as meditation. We could view it as a person having bones, nerves, and arteries inside the physical body that can’t be seen with the naked eye although it affects their well being; then the skin, hair and nails that are visible to all; and then a further layer on top of the body which is made up of an energetic layer called the aura which again you can’t see but affects your well being. You could put lots of cream onto your face to improve the texture of your skin but it is equally important for you to drink plenty of water to keep it hydrated from within. In the same way, you could behave in a particular way from the outside but your inner emotional and mental well being is greatly affected by your spiritual fitness.

Stress and tension

I have found that meditation helps to remove stress and tension that gets built by modern day living. Just like a pressure cooker lets off steam, as we meditate our minds, body and nervous system relaxes and removes all the stress that gets built up in our physical bodies. Many illnesses are as a result of stress build up. Meditation also helps to still the mind and helps one make better decisions and choices in life.

Just like when mud settles down in a pond of still water and everything becomes clearer and visible, our consciousness levels tend to grow and you become a lot more aware of things in life when you learn to quiet the mind and the thoughts. Life seems more harmonious and you feel more connected to the universe. As explained,  I have found that meditation has helped in all areas of my life – emotionally I find that I have become more balanced, mentally I have become more focused with stronger concentration levels, physically my immune system has been boosted (I have not seen a doctor for over 10 years), materially I am well off due to better decisions that I have been able to make in my career and spiritually I feel a strong connection to universal consciousness (to the higher power that some people may refer to as God, Allah, Jesus etc).

Health benefits

Though meditation is usually recognized as a largely spiritual practice, it also has many health benefits. The yoga and meditation techniques are being implemented in management of life threatening diseases; in transformation of molecular and genetic structure; in reversal of mental illnesses; in accelerated learning programs; in perceptions and communications beyond the physical world; in atomic and nuclear physics and many more areas.
Today, many of the film stars, fashion models and pop stars include meditation in their daily regime. Many of the athletes and sports professionals also regularly employ meditation methods. Studies have found a direct correlation between concentration exercises (meditation) and the performance level of sports professionals. I would highly recommend meditation as something that should be implemented as part of our daily living.
