“It is sad to see such a large number of people have never said I love you to their mum and many don’t even talk. I’m lucky enough to have a fantastic relationship with my mum, but if you don’t, Mother’s Day can be a great time to turn over a new leaf and rebuild bridges. Hallmark’s support of the Breast Cancer Campaign is the perfect way to show its support to women – and mothers – everywhere.”

I LOVE YOU, MUM!
A third of people in the UK have never told their mother that they love her, according to new research from Hallmark Cards. Together with Olympic hurdling legend and mother of three, Sally Gunnell, Hallmark is urging people to make this Mother’s Day the one to tell her.
As part of its Mother’s Day celebrations, Hallmark did some reseach for their ‘Cards for a Cure™ campaign’ that will see the company contribute a total of £1/4million to two breast cancer charities. As part of the campaign, all Hallmark Mother’s Day cards will have the internationally recognisable pink ribbon on the front of every card.
The findings reveal 10% of people have left it longer than a year to tell their mum they love her, and a third have never said it. Six times as many 18-29 year olds have said it via text or email than older groups.
A card remains the favourite to leave a lasting impression with nearly a quarter of people preferring this method to tell their mums’ I love you’; seven times more popular than modern methods such as text or email. Hardly surprising - it takes a lot more thoght to find the perfect card than it does to text a few words across the phone!
People were also asked about relationships with their mothers with 36% saying they rarely tell their mum anything or don’t talk at all. More than three times as many women than men rated their mums as their best friend.
Hallmarks donation to breast cancer charities is being made independently of card sales. It will be contributing £225,000 to Breast Cancer Campaign in the UK and £25,000 to Action Breast Cancer in Ireland.
