The season’s look is grown-up and glamorous which means ultra-glam for the evenings. During the festive seasons there are lots of opportunities to get all dressed up, so do be sure to make the most of it.
Invest in one of the season’s striking dresses and you’ll have the perfect gown in which to wow on New Year’s Eve. Alternatively, pick out some eye-catching accessories to help transform an existing outfit in your wardrobe into the perfect thing for an evening of celebration. Follow these tips from colour me beautiful consultant Fiona Wellins and you’re sure to wow on New Year’s Eve.
Stylise
Occasion wear is ultra feminine and Hollywoodesque from waist defining floor length styles to flare and fitted cocktail dresses. Fabrics are gorgeous to the touch with lots of luxurious satins and silks in rich colours. The softer satins are ideal for rounder full hourglass figures as they are gentle on the curves. Designs with embellishment such as sequins, bows or rich embroidery on the top will flatter triangle shapes as they will draw attention away from the bottom half. Rectangles should also look for detail across the chest or shoulders and avoid the cinched-in waist look, that should be left to the neat hourglass figures who will be able to carry off the sculpted look best.
Technicolor
With the range of colours in eveningwear currently available you won’t have to play it safe by wearing black. Purple is the season’s colour story from soft indigo to rich oxblood. If you have a very light, blond colouring you should choose lighter shades such as light violet. Rich, dark shades like royal purple and aubergine look fabulous on deeps with their dark hair and eyes. Warm colourings with red-toned hair and fair to gold skin tones should wear purples with a hint of yellow, such as light periwinkle. If you are a cool with ash tones to your hair and cool / pinkish skin tones you should opt for icy violets and lilacs. If you have bright eyes and dark hair you have a clear, contrasting look and the brighter shades such as bright periwinkle will look great on you. Softer tones with light brown or highlighted hair and light to dark skin tones should wear soft periwinkle and light violets. You will also find strong teals, emeralds, bold blues and shimmering metallics. Pick something in your best colour and you will be the belle of the ball!
Accessorise
Accessories abound in all shapes, colours and materials with something to fit every personality. Dramatics will want to look on trend so should adorn themselves in either the purple or metallic themed pieces. Creatives may prefer to shop in individual boutiques rather than the high street but they won’t be able to resist picking out unusual pieces like a bejewelled clutch bag or a feather stole. Block colouring is a continuing trend so if you’re a bit of a Classic and love co-ordinating then get some red shoes and red handbag to match your red dress. If you’re a Euro-chic you will most likely want to find a key item as a statement piece for your outfit; a striking brooch or a long chain with an unusual charm will keep you up to date. Romantics will love the decorative evening bags and dainty charm necklaces. If you are a Natural you will be drawn to earthy jewellery in mock jade and beads or perhaps a simple scarf that subtly completes your look.
Dramatise
Create the Hollywood look with bold eyes and lips; eyes should be dramatically framed with an eye shadow in smokey heather or sultry mocha or in a shimmering gold whisper or indian ocean. Lashes should be voluminous and eyebrows sharpened and bold. Create irresistible lips in your best red or favourite pink from the colour me beautiful range in, ruby, tomato, cerise, or fuchsia and pout like a film star!
