DON'T LET RAIN STOP YOU PLAYING!

The summer might be here but as we all know we are often at the mercy of the weather, and this summer we don’t seem to be able to get through a week without the rain affecting us in some way.
How many wonderful British summer events, large and small, are tainted by a downpour ... the Edinburgh Festival, the family picnic, a weekend at the seaside… you can never guarantee the weather. Don’t let rain stop play, just follow colour me beautiful’s top tips and you’ll be able to deal with those unexpected summer showers and still look great!
Thank you, parka
Available in a rainbow of colours, a lightweight parka is the perfect way to keep dry when the skies open. It can also be easily rolled up and packed away into your handbag when the sun comes out again. If a parka isn’t really your style then make sure you have a telescopic umbrella with you. There are a myriad of colours and patterns to choose from, go for one in a bright colour or bold pattern and it’s sure to cheer you up when you get caught in the rain.
This season’s must have fashion accessory is an oversized bag, whether it’s in colourful patent leather or pretty floral laminate, they’re not only stylish by practical too! They’re large enough to fit all your essentials in including keys, mobile phone, wallet, sunglasses and suntan lotion whilst keeping everything dry and can be easily cleaned to boot. They are perfect if you’re off to a country fair or point to point. If all else fails you could always use it as an impromptu seat!
Give it some welly
Whether it is the Notting Hill Carnival or your local village fete a pair of colourful wellies is the ideal way to deal with inclement weather. With so many whacky designs and colours to choose from you won’t have trouble finding a pair to go with your favourite summer skirt or dress. If the event you’re attending is too smart for wellies then opt for cork wedges instead. Your feet will be elevated a few inches from the puddles and cork is near-impermeable, which is why we use it for wine bottles!
Seeing it through
Don’t bare your underwear! Remember that many summer fabrics go see-through when wet, so think carefully about the pattern and style of your undies if it looks like rain. If you’re wearing light coloured clothing, then go for white or ivory underwear. You don’t want to shock the locals but showing a little lace is fine and feminine whilst French knickers are cute and comfortable. Getting caught in the rain can leave you feeling cold. Keep the chill out by treating yourself to a colourful cotton cardi or jumper, use it as a wrap or snuggle into it when you get back to the car and you’ll soon feel warmer.
Take care with your hair
A downpour or even fine drizzle can create havoc with your hairstyle. A hat is an oft neglected accessory and needn’t be saved for a special occasion and they’re ideal if you’re worried about the frizz factor. The truly stylish among us will enjoy topping off an outfit with a smart, quirky or fashionable hat. If, however, you can’t bear the thought of flattening your “do”, make sure you have treated your hair with a little TLC beforehand. Serums, waxes and even hairsprays will coat your hair and offer some protection from the elements.
Finally, we’ve all seen the photo of the damsel in distress who popped out for lunch only to get caught in a downpour. Whilst you might not have a complete change of clothes in your top drawer at the office, a micro fibre travel towel, hair brush, hair gel or spray, and make-up bag are sure to save your blushes. With these essentials you’ll soon be able to regain your professional appearance.
