HOME COMFORTS

During the First World War wives and sweethearts sent Comfort Boxes to their menfolk fighting on the front in France and Belgium.

These boxes were lovingly put together with much thought. They might contain love letters and poems, photographs, hand knitted socks, chocolates or sweets and even stories cut out from the local newspaper.

The idea was to boost the morale of the soldiers on the Front but also to remind them of the love and comfort that was waiting at home when they hopefully returned.

COMFORT AND JOY

Just how fab would it be to open a beautiful box full of everything you need to indulge in a romantic few hours with the one you love? Well, wouldn't you know it, someone's thought of just that.

A 21st century version of the comfort boxes sweethearts used to send to their loved ones in the trenches of the First World War, Sheila’s Comforts are carefully selected goodies designed to to help couples give their sex lives a bit of an oomph.

‘Fantasies are something people can be very nervous, guilty and shy about. Yet an active imagination can actually help you attain a fulfilling sex life,’ said founder Sheila Taylor, who consulted over 100 women about their own sex lives and fantasies before putting together her collection.

Fantasies

‘Sex is a physical act but if the brain is not engaged, not much is going to happen. A fantasy can be as varied as your imagination. If you have ever imagined being swept away by a literary character such as Mr Darcy, then you have had a fantasy. Research shows that people who fantasize the most are in happy, loving, trusting relationships. But it is getting started that can put people off. Role playing and fantasies are a part of human nature but it is not about rubber and bondage, it is about romance and excitement,’ she added.

(Mr Darcy? Well give me Colin Firth and a wet shirt and I'll show you a fantasy!)

Role play

The boxes are purely for fun - with the simple aim of putting a bit of fun back into our bedrooms. Each theme has been chosen to give couples the chance to introduce role play. Most role play scenarios involve a dominant and a submissive character (Mr Darcy? Elizabeth Bennett? Now I'm getting carried away) so the contents of each box fit with a particular theme that can then be adapted and used according to the whim of the people involved. Each box contains suitable luxury lingerie and/or high quality hand-finished costumes, sex toys and a host of sumptuous oils, balms, body powder and even delicious chocolates to enjoy.

The boxes are for couples who want to subtly introduce new ideas into their sex lives. The boxes are beautifully wrapped and even have a secret shelf to hide any risque items that you don’t want 'anyone else' discovering in your bedroom.

Feminine and romantic

‘I have found that women in particular want to fantasize and role play but are worried about how to start. Or they think the only way to obtain the necessary items is by going into a sex shop or shopping on dodgy websites,’ said Sheila, a mother of three. ‘That is why I spent a lot of time making sure the boxes are feminine and romantic and the website is welcoming and safe.’

The boxes even come with a sexy instruction booklet! The booklets include several different naughty storylines, so each fantasy session will be different from the one before. Just one box can give you endless fun and games. ‘By talking about the story in advance and choosing who is playing which role it gives you an insight into you and your partners likes and dislikes which in itself leads to an improved sex life, added Sheila. ‘Also buying a bit of plastic from a sex shop or website has never struck me as being romantic. Opening a beautiful box….well that is another matter.’
