It's one of our favourite things - but research has shown that there's more to the art of kissing than you might think!
That first kiss from someone new could be more revealing that you think, if research by New York State University scientists is anything to go by! You might think that all you're doing is judging his snogging technique - and trying to second guess whether *other* things will be as good... but subconsciously your brain is also trying to work out if he could be boyfriend material...
In terms of evolution, women supposedly use kissing to find the right father for their children by sensing the testosterone levels in his saliva. And if he has bad breath or a cold sore, for instance, that's not just off putting for the obvious reasons, but subconsciously stinky breath, chapped lips or cold sores might be a sign of health problems to come.
Published in the journal Evolutionary Psychology, the study involved a thousand students who were quizzed on their attitudes towards kissing. And surprise, surprise, the researchers also discovered that kissing means more to women than to men, who they found use kissing as a means to increase the likelihood of having sex.Well, some of them...
Men were also discovered to be more willing to have sex without kissing – but most women said they wouldn't even entertain the idea of having sex without a good snog to get things started. The study shows that men and women also like different types of kissing.
