"Almost thirty years later and Gerrie, living in Salisbury and now a grandmother of four, smiled in disbelief as she received an email asking if she knew a Colin Profitt, now living in Preston.
She had registered her details with Who-Remembers-Me.com and minutes earlier, had listed in her attendances the Mulheim barracks in Germany, and now she was receiving an email saying they had found an immediate match in Colin..."
MEMORY LANE REVISITED...
Rob Billington started Who-Remembers-Me in 2003 to provide a complete worldwide service for finding and connecting with old friends.
Rob wanted to find out what old friends were doing – but felt limited by websites that focused primarily on school friends. His formative memories were of friends from the neighbourhood near Manchester where he had grown up, and from his first steps into the world of work; it was these friends he wanted to find.
What he created as a result was a more complete web service that catered for a wider range of experiences, one that included streets, workplaces, clubs and children’s homes. The site helps people rediscover friends from all walks of life and from around the world. The wide range of ‘attendance’ categories to search under means more opportunities to find old friends.
As the database of registered members grows – the number of ‘matches’ with old friends will increase. WRM is well on its way to its first million members…so if you want to know what happened to that cute boy down the road that you had the crush on when you were 13 …or track down a first love, drop in and sign up!
Two former school pals finally catch up after twenty missed years
Charlotte Rennie and Karen Smith, both 29, recently reconnected through W ho-Remembers-Me.com after more than twenty years apart. Charlotte and Karen used to go to Langlands Primary School together in Forfar, Scotland, but when Charlotte’s parents decided to move to Aberdeen in 1985, that was the last they saw of each other. Charlotte was the first to register her details with the site and when Karen listed hers, it wasn’t long before she received an email asking if she knew a Charlotte Ross.
She realised immediately that this was the same Charlotte she went to school with and replied straight away. Both were thrilled to be back in touch with each other and keen to catch up on the past twenty years. Charlotte is still in Aberdeen and Karen in Forfar but they email each other on a daily basis and plan to meet up very soon.
Auf Wiedersehen Pet – Army couples reunited after almost 30 years apart
Gerrie and Geordie Fawcett used the site to reconnect with friends they had been stationed with in Germany, when Gerrie’s husband Malcolm, whose nickname is Geordie, was a corporal in the British army.
Gerrie and Geordie lived in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, until 1971 before moving to Mulheim in Germany with the army and their two young children, now 35 and 36.
Once in Mulheim they met another British couple, Colin and Barbara Proffitt, originally from Cheshire and North Devon. Grrie and Geordie stayed in Germany for five years before returning to the UK in 1977. They had forged good friendships in Germany, but inevitably as people went their separate ways, they lost touch with each other.
Almost thirty years later and Gerrie, living in Salisbury and now a grandmother of four, smiled in disbelief as she received an email asking if she knew a Colin Profitt, now living in Preston. She had registered her details with Who-Remembers-Me.com and minutes earlier, had listed in her attendances the Mulheim barracks in Germany, and now she was receiving an email saying they had found an immediate match in Colin...
Gerrie emailed Colin immediately, who was just as surprised as she, and before long they were catching up on almost 30 years of history. olin and Barbara were still very much together and they had found other army friends through the site. There was even a planned Lisburn-Mulheim reunion! Gerrie & Geordie and Colin & Barbara are now planning a reunion of their very own and hope to meet up very soon.
